Generic Neurontin

Description

Neurontin is used for the treatment of neuropathic pain in adults 18 years of age and older, as monotherapy for partial seizures, as well as an adjunct in the treatment of partial seizures.

Ingredients: the main component is gabapentin.
Auxiliary components: poloxamer, copovidone, corn starch, magnesium stereate.

How does the drug work?

After oral administration, the drug reduces the convulsive state, exerting a sedative effect on the central nervous system. It also has an analgesic effect for spasms and pains of various etiologies.

How to take and dosage.

The drug is taken orally, regardless of food intake, with a sufficient amount of liquid (for example, a glass of water). Tablets can be divided in half.
If it is necessary to reduce the dose, discontinue the drug, or change to an alternative agent, this should be done gradually over a period of at least one week.
Neuropathic pain in adults
The initial dose is 900 mg / day in 3 divided doses. Subsequently, depending on the patient’s response to therapy and tolerability of the drug, the dose may be increased by 300 mg / day every 2-3 days, up to a maximum of 3600 mg / day. In some patients, a slower dose increase may be appropriate. The minimum time for which you can increase the dose to 1800 mg / day is 1 week, 2400 mg / day – 2 weeks, and at least 3 weeks are required to reach the maximum daily dose of 3600 mg / day.

Side effects: viral infections, pneumonia, respiratory tract infection, leukopenia, increased appetite, confusion, depression, irritability.
Contraindications:
° use as monotherapy of partial seizures with and without secondary generalization in children under 12 years of age;

°use as an additional agent in the treatment of partial seizures with and without secondary generalization in children under 3 years of age;

°for the treatment of neuropathic pain in children and adolescents under 18 years of age;

° lactase deficiency, lactose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption (for capsules);

° hypersensitivity to gabapentin or auxiliary components of the drug.

With caution, the drug should be prescribed for renal failure.
