Description
Atarax is prescribed to people who have an increased anxiety state, as well as a relaxing agent before surgery. Atarax may be used for the symptomatic treatment of pruritus.
Composition and similar products.
One Atarax tablet contains 0.025 g of hydroxyzine and excipients: lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, colloidal silicon anhydride, magnesium stearate, titanium dioxide, macrogol and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose.
Analogues: Hydroxyzine.
How does Atarax work?
The drug has an antispasmodic, analgesic effect. Under the influence of the drug, the total duration of sleep increases, the tone decreases, and does not cause memory impairment.
How to use and dose.
Atarax is prescribed orally. For the treatment of anxiety states, it is recommended to take 0.05 g of the drug per day. With a severe degree of anxiety, the dose of the drug can be increased to 0.3 g per day.
With symptomatic treatment of itching, an initial dose of 0.025 g is recommended, if necessary, the dose can be increased to 0.025 g three to four times a day.
Side effect and contraindications.
Side effects: increased heart rate, decreased visual clarity, dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, general weakness, fatigue, increased body temperature.
Contraindications:
The use of the drug is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to any substance that is part of the drug, as well as to cetirizine and drugs that include piperazine, aminophylline, ethylenediamine or their derivatives. Prescribing and taking the drug is contraindicated if the patient has porphyria. The content of lactose in Atarax excludes its appointment in the presence of a patient with hereditary galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency or malabsorption of glucose-galactose.
